Santonio Holmes activated from physically unable to perform list

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes passed his physical and was activated from the physically unable to perform list.

He has yet to resume practicing, though, and won't participate in a Saturday night preseason game against the New York Giants.

Holmes is eligible to start practicing.

Holmes had foot surgery last fall after suffering a Liscranc foot injury.

The Jets are holding out hope that Holmes could be ready for the season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Holmes said Wednesday that, "looks can be deceiving," when told he looked sharp running sprints.

ESPN New York cited a source suggesting that Holmes, "could be milking it and feel fine by Week One."

The Jets need Holmes, who has 358 career receptions for 5,507 yards and 35 touchdowns.

"We have 16 weeks of football," Holmes said Wednesday when asked about his status. "At any point, I could be ready to play."
