Santonio Holmes noncommittal on his return

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

When will he be back?

Holmes wouldn't say, and was testy with New York reporters when they tried to pin him down on a return date.

“At this point, I think the bye week is coming at a great time,” Holmes said. “It will give me five, maybe six weeks to get healthy and I should be ready to roll.”

When Holmes was asked if he would miss the Jets' game Nov. 3 against the New Orleans Saints, he replied: "I didn't say that. Don't put words in my mouth."

Holmes is going to be careful after being out last season with a broken foot.

“That’s one thing I don’t want, any setbacks at this point,” Holmes said. “I already missed a full season last year and I want to be back on the team to help these guys as much as possible. I think I would be a downside to the team if I put myself back on that list of being injured for the remainder of the season.”
