So much for three-day weekends this spring for Detroit Lions players.

Coach Jim Schwartz, still rearranging the way things are done in Motown in Year 2 of his program, put the kibosh on those retreats by players.

The Lions have tinkered with their (voluntary) offseason program and in doing so changed the schedule most teams use and the one the Lions used last offseason. Players will now be (voluntarily) required to work out at the facility Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with Wednesday serving as the off day, per Nick Cotsonika of the Detroit Free Press.

Coming off 2-30 over the last two seasons, the players (those remaining from the 2008 debacle) don’t have a lot of say in the matter.

“"We're not concerned about (players’ social schedules),” said Jason Arapoff, the team’s coordinator of physical development. “It's a better way to train.

“It's as much an attempt to show the players that what we did last year is not cutting it, either. We can't say, 'Come on back. We'll just repeat what we did last year.' "

there does appear to be an extended leave of absence for "personal issues" and others are taking over his duties. No team announcement has been made. Several local reporters seem to indicate that this about "personal Issues" unrelated to football.
