Coach says team made a real effort Brad Biggs
Rumors are the Seattle Seahawks could be one of the teams in play for Kevin Kolb, the quarterback the Philadelphia Eagles are shopping.
One report was the Seahawks could have interest in Auburn’s Cam Newton too.
Veteran starter Matt Hasselbeck is a free-agent-to-be and even if the club brings him back, it needs to develop a plan for the future if Charlie Whitehurst has been deemed to be not that guy.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said this morning the team made serious efforts aimed at re-signing Hasselbeck before the lockout when business froze.
“We made a run at getting it done before the stoppage and just weren't able to work anything out," Carroll said, according to ESPN.com’s Mike Sando. “As we go forward, Matt has been in our plans the whole time and now that it's in free agency (at some point in the future), we just have to see what happens.
“Financially, we went after it and couldn't get it done. In my mind, it kind of came right down to the final day of it. We made an effort and they made an effort.”
That makes it sound like the Seahawks might take one more crack at Hasselbeck when the NFL’s labor battle is settled. If that doesn’t work out, they’ll have to plot a new plan.
