Will Beatty will not start at left tackle for the New York Giants on Wednesday night putting Sean Locklear in charge of protecting Eli Manning’s blind side.

Locklear draws the assignment of handling DeMarcus Ware in the NFL’s kickoff game of the season, according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger. The Giants are bringing Beatty along slowly as he recovers from a “nagging back issue.”

The Giants chose Locklear instead of moving former left tackle David Diehl back to the position. They believe Locklear has advanced through training camp and preseason.

“I’m prepared. I was hesitant with things but now I feel like with the more practice I’ve gotten, the more comfortable I feel,” Locklear said.

It’s quite a stage for him to make his debut for the Super Bowl champions.
