The family of legendary linebacker Junior Seau has agreed to allow his brain to be evaluated for any damage that may have been caused by concussions, says the Los Angeles Times.
Seau died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest on Wednesday at his Oceanside, Calif., home. He was 43. The medical examiner officially declared Seau's death a suicide.
Former Chicago Bears defensive back Dave Duerson died similarly last year, and researchers at the Boston University School of Medicine determined that Duerson suffered from a neurodegenerative condition linked to concussions that led to his depression and ultimately played a role in his death.
