MOBILE, Ala. -- Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr couldn't have imagined skipping the Senior Bowl.
Not with his background. Not with his desire to compete. And not after his older brother, David Carr, played in the Senior Bowl a dozen years ago on his way to becoming the top overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft with the Houston Texans.
A projected first-round draft pick, Carr passed for 5,802 yards, 50 touchdowns and just eight interceptions as a senior.
"I don't know how many brothers have gotten to play in the Senior Bowl, but what an opportunity,'' Carr said. "Everything that he's told me about how great everybody is here. It didn't matter if they had told me I was a lock to be No. 1, I'm coming. I want to be here just because they treated my brother so well. Just the great things he had to say about Mobile and the Senior Bowl and everybody that works with it, there was no doubt that I would be here.''
Unlike Alabama linebacker C.J Mosley and quarterback AJ McCarron and Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde, Carr accepted his invitation and stuck with his commitment to play in this game.
"Everybody's entitled to how they feel and what they want to do,'' Carr said when asked aboy some players who declined invitations to play in the Senior Bowl. "I just want to compete. I don't care what people say about me - you're here or here (draft oulook), that stuff doesn't matter to me because it really doesn't matter until draft day.
"Plus, who wouldn't want to come to the Senior Bowl? This is a wonderful opportunity and I'm so thankful to be able to be here and to show that I'll compete against anybody. You line whoever you want next to me and I'll throw to them all day until we get it right.''
