Restricted free agent eyes a wrestling future Aaron Wilson
San Diego Chargers star ouside linebacker Shawne Merriman is one of the more flamboyant, exuberant and intimidating football players in the league.
And the man known as "Lights Out" told San Diego radio station XX 1090 that he has considered the possibility of boosting his bank account one day in the scripted format of the WWE.
"It's been talked about," said Merriman, per SportsRadioInterviews.com. "I guess it's the offseason and with things a little slow there's probably some other things to be talked about. I just want to set the record straight. I'm preparing myself for a 110 percent hell of a season, football season that is. All that stuff is talk. I'm a huge, huge wrestling fan, I've always been, and I've had a few talks with Vince McMahon before and it's a possibility."
Is Merriman saying he would enter the pro wrestling world in the immediate future?
"Not saying it's a possibility of me doing it, it's just been talked about as a possibility," Merriman said. "Especially a lot of things happening with the CBA and stuff like that going on. All that stuff will take care of itself. I've just been training to get back to where I want to be playing football. Because that's the most important thing to me in my life right now."
How did this topic get raised?
Well, former Atlanta Falcons nose guard Bill Goldberg, the wrestler known simply as Goldberg, is considering wrestling again.
And he wants Merriman to be his tag-team partner.
Merriman said he'll definitely play football this fall, but the WWE is an attractive option for him down the road.
“Anything is possible," he said. "There’s 1,000 possibilities. I can’t even narrow it down to one. My number one thing and I know for sure is, I will be ready for football this year and that’s what’s most important.”
