New York Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson 'has an advocate in teammate Sheldon Richardson.

Richardson is urging the Jets to pay Wilkerson with a new contract.

Wilkerson led the team with 10.5 sacks last season and is due just $2.2 million this season.

"Hopefully, they do the right thing and pay the man," Richardson told New York reporters "That's coming from me. That's somebody I want around. But it's just business. You have no control over it. He's due for a paycheck, though. Believe that, he's due for a paycheck."

Wilkerson is one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in the game. He leads a defensive line that features him, Richardson and Damon "Big Snacks" Harrison, an imposing nose tackle.

Wilkerson is due a $6.9 million fifth-year option in 2015.

At some point, the Jets will reward Richardson. They would likely be better off doing something for him sooner rather than later when his price could go up.
