Veteran tight end joins crowd at the position in New England. Terry McCormick
Veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe has agreed to a one-year, $1.2 million deal with the New England Patriots, according to NFL.com.
Shiancoe had also been courted by the Philadelphia Eagles, but instead will join the Pats where the tight end position has become crowded with Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Jake Ballard, Daniel Fells and Tyler Urban on the roster.
However, Ballard and Fells are both on the PUP list to start camp and Gronkowski could be limited as well as he had ankle surgery following New England's Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants in February.
Shiancoe caught 36 passes for the Minnesota Vikings last year.
