Singletary's interview yanked from TV Web site

Need another sign that things are teetering on the brink of being out of control in San Francisco?

It’s been well documented that the 49ers were throttled last Sunday in Seattle and upon returning home coach Mike Singletary ordered a team-only meeting. Now, the team or Singletary (or both) is censoring interviews for the coach.

According to Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News, a day after Singletary sat down for a “feisty interview” with KPIX, a local television affiliate which has a contract with the Niners, the interview has been pulled from the station’s Web site.

Per Brown, a 49ers spokesman said he wasn’t aware if the team had asked the interview, known as “Coach’s Corner,” to be removed.

Singletary grew peeved when he was asked about the strong Jason Cole article for Yahoo! Sports that detailed the communication issues plaguing the coaching staff and offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye.

“Don't base a man's entire career on a dang-gum Yahoo commercial," Singletary said.

When the subject turned to the 49ers’ opponent for Monday night in the home opener – the New Orleans Saints – Singletary didn’t fare much better.

Asked about Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Singletary snapped, “We will not try to stop Drew Brees. We will stop Drew Brees. Next question.”

So, Singletary is either trying to motivate his players or he’s spinning a little out of control in Week 1. He probably deserves the benefit of the doubt, but if things begin to unravel, there is going to be a fireworks show.
