As the Chicago Bears signed Canadian Football League long-snapper Chad Rempel to a three-year contract following a tryout, they also auditioned running backs Nate Eachus, Javon Ringer and Phillip Tanner.
Eachus played for the Kansas Chiefs and collegiately at Colgate.
A former Middle Tennessee State standout, Tanner was with the Dallas Cowboys last season.
And Ringer played for the Tennessee Titans after playing collegiately at Michigan State.
The Bears also tried out quarterbacks Josh Freeman and Adam Weber and tight end Matthew Mulligan.
Rempel played for Bears coach Marc Trestman with the Montreal Alouettes.
Veteran long snapper Pat Mannelly is coming off hip surgery and is still deciding whether he's going to play. If he returns, he's expected to compete with Brandon Hartson.
Rempel is a 6-foot-2, 214-pounder who has 70 special-teams tackles, two fumble recoveries and 22 catches for 283 yard and two touchdowns.
