The Buffalo Bills auditioned three safeties today with Bryan Scott and Donte Whitner both banged-up, according to a league source.
That included former Oakland Raiders safety Stuart Schweigert, who was drafted in the third round of the 2004 NFL draft out of Purdue.
Schweigert registered 52 tackles and three pass deflections as a rookie. The following year, he improved to 87 tackles, seven pass deflections and two interceptions.
In 2006, he recorded 107 tackles. And he intercepted two passes with the Raiders in 2007.
Schweigert was released by the Raiders on May 21, 2008.
He had subsequent stints with the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants and was cut by the Detroit Lions during their final major roster cutdown prior to this season.
The Bills also worked out former St. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears safety Todd Johnson and former Denver Broncos safety Vernon Fox.
