University of Virginia cornerback Chris Cook was sick before his recent Pro Day workout and visited a doctor for flu-like symptoms 36 hours before his NFL audition, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the situation.

Cook drew criticism from NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock for getting "winded" during his positional drills with SI.com's Tony Pauline writing that NFL coaches had to "coax Cook to pick up the tempo."

Per our source, Cook didn't make excuses for his lack of energy and breathing issue and didn't want to not work out because he wasn't 100 percent.

He is scheduled for several private workouts with NFL teams.

The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder had a strong Senior Bowl week and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds at the NFL scouting combine.
