Mississippi State linebacker has visited the Patriots Aaron Wilson
Mississippi State linebacker Jamar Chaney's draft stock has risen to the point where he has been assigned a second-round grade on some NFL teams' draft boards, according to league sources.
Chaney has previously visited the New England Patriots, is visiting the Philadelphia Eagles today and will be visiting the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday and Wednesday, per a source close to the program with knowledge of the situation.
Chaney, who ran a 4.54 at the NFL scouting combine as the fastest linebacker and improved that time to a 4.45 to 4.48 range at his Pro Day workout, spent a signficant amount of time following that workout with the Oakland Raiders.
Chaney, who's nearly identical in size to NFL linebackers Patrick Willis and Jerod Mayo at 6-foot-1, 241-pounds, has workout numbers that compare favorably to those NFL standouts as well as the other linebackers selected in the first few rounds over the past five years.
Chaney missed the 2008 season with a broken leg, but the Florida native started 39 career games.
At the scouting combine, the Florida native also bench presssed 225 pounds 26 times and turned in a 39-inch vertical leap.
He also registered a 10-4 broad jump, a 4.29 short shuttle and a 6.90 in the three-cone drill.
When Mayo was leaving Tennessee, he ran a 4.54 in the 40-yard dash and turned in a 32-inch vertical leap.
And Willis ran a 4.51 with a 39-inch vertical leap and a 9-11 broad jump.
Chaney's 40-yard dash time topped DeMeco Ryans' 4.65 with Ryans also turning in a 39-inch vertical leap.
Chaney was the South team's Most Valuable Player on defense at the Senior Bowl.
