The New York Giants recently worked out veteran fullback Lawrence Vickers, according to a league source.

The Giants wound up signing Ryan D'Imperio and Vickers remains a free agent.

He was cut by the Dallas Cowboys prior to training camp and had been due a $1.2 million base salary in the final year of his deal.

Vickers, who replaced All-Pro fullback Vonta Leach with the Houston Texans, played in 14 games two seasons ago for the Texans, blocking for Pro Bowl running back Arian Foster.

Vickers played in every game last season for the Cowboys, starting six and rushed for 11 yards on three carries. He caught 13 passes for 104 yards.

Vickers, 29, is a former Cleveland Browns starter.

A 6-foot, 250-pounder from Colorado, Vickers played his first five seasons with the Browns.
