University of Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount has decided to sign a free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans on Monday, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

After going undrafted, Blount had originally verbally agreed to terms with the San Francisco 49ers.

After talking the decision over with his family and Titans coach Jeff Fisher, Blount decided that his best opportunity lies in Tennessee.

Per our source, Blount has respectfully explained his decision to 49ers coach Mike Singletary and remains on good terms with him.

With the Titans no longer having LenDale White on the roster, Blount felt like there was a chance for him to provide a power running presence behind Pro Bowl running back Chris Johnson. The Titans also have former Michigan State back Javon Ringer on the roster.

The 49ers drafted Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon in the sixth round and have standout Frank Gore and Glen Coffee on the roster.

Blount was suspended for 10 games last season for punching Boise State player Byron Hunt. That incident was preceded by a previous suspension for missing team meetings during the offseason.

He was subsequently reinstated by Oregon coach Chip Kelly after the infamous punch and rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown during a win over rival Oregon State that propelled the Ducks to a Rose Bowl berth.

Blount apologized for the incident and hasn't been in any further trouble.

Blount took official predraft visits with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Blount ran between 4.53 and 4.55 seconds in the 40-yard dash at his campus Pro Day workout.

The 6-foot-1, 238-pounder rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown during the Senior Bowl game.

As a junior in 2008, Blount rushed for 1,002 yards and 17 touchdowns.
