The Detroit Lions are expected to sign veteran quarterback Dan Orlovsky, according to a league source.

Orlovsky, 30, is a former Lions fifth-round draft pick from the 2005 NFL draft out of Connecticut.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder has previous stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for the past two seasons, and has also played for the Houston Texans, Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts.

In college, Orlovsky set school records with 10,421 yards and 84 touchdowns.

Orlovsky signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Texans in 2009.

In 2011 for the Colts, Orlovsky completed 30 of 37 passes for 353 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for a 113.1 passer rating in a loss to the New England Patriots.

Orlovsky led the Colts to a comeback win over the Texans during the 2011 season.

Orlovsky has completed 58.5 percent of his career passes for 2,931 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for a 76.0 passer rating in nine NFL seasons.
