In the wake of reports that the New England Patriots are on the verge of signing veteran linebacker Junior Seau, the process toward him potentially rejoining the team picked up steam today.
According to a league source, Seau tried out for the team today.
Seau's presence could help the Patriots at inside linebacker with starter Jerod Mayo sidelined with a sprained medial collateral ligament.
Seau, 40, is entering his 20th NFL season. A 12-time Pro Bowl selection, Seau was with the Patriots for the final month of last season.

After 20 seasons, shouldn't he call himself Senior Citizen Seau?
Right now, the Patriots rank 20th in the NFL and are the worst 3-1 team. Check out the TRUEScoreâ„¢ System, always, at Gridiron Grotto on blogspot. http://bit.ly/YheLl
The Patriots defense ranks 10th in Total Defense Takeaways (punts + picks + fumbles). The Patriots defense ranks 11th in the NFL.
However, Tom Brady has the six lowest Pass IQ in the NFL through four games. The Patriots have the 7th worst offense for scoring from scrimmage.
The Patriots ought to be working out offense replacements.
