The New England Patriots conducted a private workout today at the University of Cincinnati, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Four players worked out for the Patriots, including quarterback Tony Pike, wide receiver Mardy Gilyard, defensive lineman Ricardo Mathews and defensive end Alex Daniels.
Mathews was a second-team All-Big East Conference selection who led the Bearcats with 11 1/2 tackles for losses while also recording 3 1/2 sacks last season.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pounder has 4.8 to 4.9 speed and has bench pressed 225 pounds 26 times.
Daniels has also drawn interest from teams as a potential outside linebacker or fullback.
He bench pressed 225 pounds 31 times at his Pro Day and clocked a 4.73 in the 40-yard dash with a 36 1/2 inch vertical leap.

They were coached up in a hot system. Their man went to Notre Dame, the verticle stems game he reps up fouls up pure pattern read teams. All these guys were coached up well within that system, they may be ahead of adjustment curves against the Saban coverage trend taking the sport's top levels over.
I just like what gilyard brings to the table. slot WR, dangerous return man. fills multiple holes.
