The New England Patriots worked out former Illinois defensive back Terry Hawthorne and four other players, according to a league source.

Hawthorne was drafted in the fifth round this year by the Pittsburgh Steelers and didn't make the final major roster cutdown.

The AFC East club also worked out wide receiver Reggie Dunn (Utah), defensive back Travis Howard (Ohio State), defensive end Emeka Onyenekwu (Louisina-Lafayette0 and inside linebacker Taylor Reed (SMU). Reed was previously with the Dallas Cowboys.
