Safety-cornerback dealt to Packers Aaron Wilson
The Baltimore Ravens have traded safety-cornerback Derrick Martin to the Green Bay Packers, according to a league source.
The terms of the compensation haven't been disclosed, but it's likely a 2010 late-round conditional draft pick.
UPDATE: Martin has confirmed the trade in a telephone interview with National Football Post.
"It's a new beginning," Martin said. "It's going to be fun. Green Bay runs a similar defense with that 3-4, so I should fit in. I guess Green Bay liked what they saw from me out there.
"I'm going to play safety, cornerback and special teams, like I did here. I'm excited about the opportunity. I had a blast in Baltimore, while it lasted, but it's time to move on."
UPDATE: We're now hearing that Martin was traded in exchange for reserve offensive lineman Tony Moll.
Martin had a strong training camp and preseason, but wasn't slated for much playing time in Baltimore.
He intercepted a pass this preseason.
An athletic former sixth-round draft pick from Wyoming, Martin drew praise from Ravens coach John Harbaugh for his consistency with Harbaugh predicting he had a good chance to make the 53-man roster.
Martin also operates as a gunner on the punt team.
He was sidelined last season on injured reserve, undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum.
