The Washington Redskins have signed running back Andre Brown off the Denver Broncos' practice squad, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.
Brown was with the Broncos earlier this season, but was released and has since had stints with the Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers.
Brown is a second-year pro who was selected by the New York Giants in the fourth round last year from North Carolina State University.
He spent his rookie year on the Giants’ reserve/injured list before leading the club in rushing yards (21-95, one touchdown) and kickoff return yards (7-120, 17.1 avg.) in his first game as a pro during the preseason this year.
At N.C. State, Brown played 44 games with 30 starts and finished his career ranked ninth in school history in all-purpose yards with 3,511 yards, including 2,539 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns.
