Source: Sam Montgomery visited Bengals
Cut by the Houston Texans for violating team rules, former LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery visited the Cincinnati Bengals this week, according to a league source.
Montgomery is a third-round draft pick.
He was released by the Texans this week and went unclaimed off waivers.
The Texans released running back Cierre Wood and outside linebacker Willie Jefferson as well as Montgomery.
“I won’t discuss team rules,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak told reporters.
According to ESPN, the rookies were using marijuana.
Jefferson's agent told ESPN the players were smoking a cigar and that no illegal drugs were used.
"We're discussing the possibility of filing a grievance," Cannon said. "I need to be in touch with them and really figure if that's the best route to take."
The rookies violated team rules at the team hotel Saturday night in Kansas City and were sent home and deactivated, according to the newspaper.
“I feel like they wasted a big opportunity,” outside linebacker Brooks Reed said. “I’m sure they’re realizing it right now. It’s crazy and unfortunate because they had a great opportunity here to be successful. They just didn’t get it. I don’t understand why someone would do that to themselves
