Taylor Mays was timed as fast as 4.19 seconds in the 40-yard dash by former USC coach Pete Carroll when the NFL safety prospect and the new Seattle Seahawks coach were on the Trojans' campus, according to a league source.
Mays' official time today was 4.43 seconds after unofficial times of 4.24 and 4.34 seconds.
There's no question that Mays is fast as he ranked first among the defensive backs in that category. He also posted a 41-inch vertical leap.
What's more important is how the athletic 6-foot-3, 230-pounder plays.
Per a source, Mays received strong reviews from NFL teams this week at the NFL scouting combine.
Among the NFL brass that were high on Mays: San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary, the former Chicago Bears middle linebacker.
One source predicted that Mays will be drafted in the top 10 selections of the first round in April.

Yea, Pete timed him at 4.19....."Ok Taylor go! One and a two and a three and a four and. K that last and was about .19 seconds long." Ridiculous. Do you think I could get Taylor to run in the opposite direction of the Earths rotation? I need to go back in time and set my TiVo, I forgot to tape American Idol last week.
Lots of crazy 40 times come out of university propaganda. I would guess this "magic 40" was run with the wind, with a running start and hand timed.
All u sc haters need to stop looking at the players and look at ur wives........
Niners need Eric Berry not just some gouy that could run fast. Singeltarry is Bluffing!!! He doesnt want this guy.

Yeah, I ran a 4.07 in HS, just ask my coach, he'll tell you.
It's amazing how many 4.2 kids there are out there that can't run a 4.2 when asked to do so.......you know what that tells me? They're not 4.2 kids.....
