Texans linebacker to start, beats out Xavier Adibi Aaron Wilson
The Houston Texans have informed Zac Diles that he has won the starting job at weakside linebacker, according to a league source.
APThe Houston Texans have named Zac Diles as their starting weakside linebacker over Xavier Adibi.
Diles has had a strong preseason and has outplayed Xavier Adibi, who struggled against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.
Diles shifted over from the strongside when rookie linebacker Brian Cushing hurt his knee.
"Pretty darn well," Texans coach Gary Kubiak told the Houston Chronicle when asked about Diles' play.
Diles is a third-year linebacker from Kansas State who was on pace for over 120 tackles when he broke his leg last season in practice.
He started the first eight games last season, finishing second on the team with 66 tackles. He also registered a sack, a forced fumble and his first career interception.
He posted a career-high 13 tackles against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Meanwhile, Adibi, who lost contain on Vikings running back Adrian Peterson's touchdown run, hasn't been nearly as impressive.
“X has been a little inconsistent and probably last night was not one of his better preseason games,” Kubiak said.
