Under strong consideration for defensive coordinator job Aaron Wilson
MOBILE, Ala. -- Miami Dolphins assistant head coach and secondary coach Todd Bowles wowed Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt during an interview for the defensive coordinator vacancy, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation.
Bowles' interview was impressive, according to sources, and he's considered an extremely strong candidate to land the job.
Bowles interviewed with the Dallas Cowboy for their defensive coordinator job previously this offseason.
Last season, the Dolphins' pass defense finished eighth after ranking 24th the previous year.
Bowles coached a promising cornerback tandem in Vontae Davis and Sean Smith.
Bowles, 47, is a former Bill Parcells assistant who coached the Cowboys' secondary.
He played in the NFL for eight seasons as a safety for the Washington Redskins and the San Francisco 49ers.
The Cardinals have other options to replace fired defensive coordinator Billy Davis.
However, they have to wait to tap into any of Whisenhunt's connections with the Pittsburgh Steelers since they're in the Super Bowl.
Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is expected to remain in Pittsburgh, but linebackers coach Keith Butler has consistently been linked to the Cardinals as a possibility.
However, Butler is under contract. And his current deal includes a provision that he'll be able to take over for LeBeau whenever he retires.
Steelers secondary coach Ray Horton is another potential candidate.
