The St. Louis Rams have been on the lookout for a linebacker to play alongside James Laurinaitis.
Maybe they’ve found the one they are seeking. The club is hosting free agent Daryl Smith on a visit today, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, and he would bring a wealth of experience playing on the strong side.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher has to know Smith well from their days together in the AFC South. Smith played for the Jacksonville Jaguars for nine seasons. Some thought the 31-year-old might prove to be a match for the Chicago Bears where former Jaguars defensive coordinator Mel Tucker went, but that didn’t materialize.
Smith missed 14 games last season with a groin injury but he is believed to be fully healthy now.
