One year after the death of Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair, the former All-Pro passer's memory resonates with his family, friends and former teammates.
McNair was murdered by his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi.
She shot him to death, then committed suicide with the same gun, according to police.
A year later, the grieving process continues. Especially in his hometown of Mount Olive, Miss.
"I don't know that we'll ever get over it," Mount Olive mayor Robert McNair, who's not related to the late NFL quarterback, told The Clarion Ledger."This town identified with Steve. What happened last year on July 4th will never be forgotten here."
Added Titans fan Derrick Lewis: "I will always remember him for the good things that he did for the community and the Tennessee Titans. Nobody's perfect."
Heading into the Fourth of July holiday, McNair's older brother, Tim McNair, said that the family planned to spend the day together.
"We'll go to church, then we'll come home and eat dinner," Tim McNair said. "We'll pray together, eat together, remember Steve together, laugh together and cry together. I'm sure there will be all kinds of emotion."
