Peyton Manning's first effort in his first preseason game as a Denver Bronco went well, right up until the end of his first drive.

That's when a Manning pass for Brandon Stokley was tipped and intercepted by Bears defensive back Major Wright at the 4-yard line.

Stokley said the interception on was on him, telling the Denver Post, "The guy tipped it, but it wasn't a good route by me," Stokley said. "All around it was a good first drive, but you have to finish it off."

As for Manning, he was pleased just to be playing football again after missing all of last season and being released by the Indianapolis Colts.

"Considering where I was a year ago ... being out there today, it's been a long haul for me," Manning said after the game. "That first snap, that first play, was a big step for me."

The Broncos won the game, 31-3.
