Baltimore Ravens star Terrell Suggs, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a workout, and will need surgery to repair the injury, says Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times.
Suggs, the Ravens star outside linebacker, will likely miss all of the 2012 season, a crippling blow to the Ravens defense. Various repots say Suggs' workout was playing basketball, but the linebacker has denied that. He also told Rachel Nichols of ESPN that the tear, which will still require surgery, is only a partial one and that he has not given up on playing in 2012.
Still, it means the Ravens must adjust and rookie Courtney Upshaw could be rushed into the starting lineup. Baltimore chose him in the second round of the the draft last Friday.
No matter who steps in, Suggs' production will be hard to replace, as he had 14 sacks and seven forced fumbles in 2011.
