Defensive tackles get to work on Sunday in Indianapolis. Joe Fortenbaugh
Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh got the best of Oklahoma’s Gerald McCoy on November 7, when Suh’s Cornhuskers defeated McCoy’s Sooners 10-3 in Lincoln.
And as the two defensive tackles—widely regarded as the top two prospects in this year’s draft—continue their journey to the NFL, they can look forward to being compared to one another at just about everything for the next two months.
On Sunday, that process began in Indianapolis when the defensive tackles hit the bench press for the first of many workouts at this year’s NFL combine.
Put the official scorecard at Suh 1, McCoy 0.
The former Cornhusker put up 32 reps at 225 pounds, besting McCoy’s 23.
But while Suh and McCoy have been dominating the headlines recently, it was Georgia’s Jeff Owens who stole the show.
Owens posted 44 repetitions on the bench press Sunday afternoon, falling one shy of tying the all-time combine record.
Other notable performances included East Carolina’s Linval Joseph putting up 39 reps and Georgia’s Geno Atkins and UCLA’s Brian Price posting 39 reps.
The workouts will resume on Monday when the defensive tackles run the 40-yard-dash at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Why shouldn't weather play a part in the game. It has a part in the other 20 weeks of the season. Football is at its best when both teams have to suffer through the same weather conditions, no matter what those conditions are.

These bench reps don't mean a thing. A few years back, Mike Mamula did a monster rep session at the combine. Though he was not projected to go high in the draft, it helped move him up when the Eagles grabbed him in the first round and he became one of their all-time busts.
