Lions generating a little bit of a buzz Brad Biggs
The Detroit Lions are going to get a closer look at one of the players they will be targeting with the second pick in the draft when they host Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh on a visit today, according to longtime Detroit writer Mike O’Hara.
Suh will be the third top prospect to come through the building this week as Oklahoma State offensive tackle Russel Okung and Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy already visited, per O’Hara.
The expectation is that second-year coach Jim Schwartz, who has a defensive background, will look to one of the tackles to help turn around his moribund unit. Detroit is desperate for help up front and the Lions will likely have their choice of Suh or McCoy if the St. Louis Rams select Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford with the No. 1 pick as many expect.
According to O’Hara, the buzz about the Lions right now is considerable, you know, by Motown standards. Coming off a 2-14 season, that followed a Titanic 0-16 campaign, tickets are selling. He reports that the team has sold 1,000 new season tickets already this year, up from about 300 at the same point last year when the Lions were zeroing in on quarterback Matthew Stafford. Perhaps selecting Suh would sell some more tickets.
