The NFL announced on Tuesday that the Bay Area (specifically the new soon-to-be built stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.) has been awarded the milestone 50th Super Bowl.
Super Bowl L will be hosted in the San Francisco 49ers new stadium in 2016, marking the first time the area has hosted the game since 1985.
In addition to that, Houston will be the site of Super Bowl LI in 2017.
Those decisions by NFL owners were not unexpected. Miami was the only other city in the running, but the lack of an upgrade to Sun Life Stadium in Fort Lauderdale put a major dent in South Florida's chances of getting the NFL's big game in th enear future.
