I think that Dominik and Coach Morris are doing the rebuild the right way. Teams can really put themselves in cap hell being frivolous in free agency. Remember what Rich Mckay did to the Bucs. Too much risk in buying high priced free agents. Most of the time they are unfortunately in it for the money. Young talented college draft picks have the hunger and desire to produce. Too many free agents once they get the money lay down. I know there is also risk in the draft but I firmly believe that is the best way to go. If you can get some free agents at a reasonable price that is ok but most of the time a team overpays. Keep doing what you are doing Mark and Raheem. Go Bucs.
Many of us fans do not have faith in this build through the draft plan. Culverhouse tried the same thing and the result was 14 straight losing seasons and the worse win/lose record of ANY PRO Sports team. Passing on proven young talent during free agency makes no sense. Many of us feel that the decisions that started February 2009 put the team back 30 years. Getting Winslow was one of the few good moves in the last year, but making him the highest paid TE in NFL history? Not so much. And no one, I mean no one, has any idea WHY any competent management team would give a $25 million dollar contract to a mediocre WR. Firing the offensive coordinator the week before the season starts and putting Ronde Barber in a man coverage defense, two more bad ideas. Putting a very inexperienced coach in charge of a team with enough issues it would challenge the most experienced NFL coach was another bad sign. With all these bad moves, the build through the draft idea just seems like more of the same. Sure, some teams have built winning teams through the draft like the Steelers. But the Bucs the last few years have more misses from the draft then hits. All these bad decisions re-enforce the fact that they need a Czar or a new owner in Tampa to get the Bucs back in the playoffs and dare I saw, Super Bowl. I write this while watching the 2002 NFC Championship Game, the one that shocked the Eagles and elated Bucs fans. I miss that feeling of routing for a winner and sadly, there is no sign that the Bucs will field a winner in the foreseeable future.
