As far as former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradhshaw is concerned, Ben Roethlisberger's request for clemency from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in the form of a reduction in his suspension from six games to three games should be outright denied.

"Going to bars -- treating women like that; oh my God," Bradshaw told the Shreveport Times. "I pray they don't cut [his suspension] to four games. I hope they leave it at six. There is no excuse for that. The egos get out of hand."

A four-game suspension is considered likely for Roethlisberger, who's being punished for violating the NFL personal conduct policy even though he wasn't charged with a crime after being investigated for an alleged sexual assault on a 20-year-old Georgia woman.

Roethlisberger meets Friday with Goodell in New York.

Bradshaw offered some other strong opinions as well.

He had no sympathy for Miami Dolphins defensive end Kendall Langford after losing his diamond earring at practice.

"I hope they never find it -- $50,000?" Bradshaw said. "Go tell that to somebody that can't pay for his kid's education or can't get them into a hospital room and get them treated properly."

And Bradshaw criticized Jets coach Rex Ryan.

"He doesn't play; easy for him to shoot his mouth," Bradshaw said. "Unfortunately, I don't think his players are quite as strong-minded as he is. He's putting a lot of pressure on his young quarterback."

Too bad that Bradshaw guy doesn't have any strong opinions!

Bradshaw is a big fan of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, though, for his accessibility and character.

I agree with TB except I wouldn't call Ryan strong minded. He stated his team was going nowhere until the Colts let them in the playoffs and then declared his team SB winners. He has labled them the champs again this year. Let him fight off a bag of Cheetos before we call him strong willed. The guy is bipolar as hell.

Yah Terry is right. I mean if we're going to grant clemency to Rothlisberger, why not give it to Cushing too? Ryan will get his, -just like Glanville and his dad before him.

I struggle with the whole concept that the commissioner can take away a guy's livelihood and contractual rights due to something that happened outside football. But apparently it's legal, so done is done.

With Roethlisberger, the commish runs a big risk if he reduces the suspension. He looks like he imposed the original suspension as a PR move, only to reduce it when the spotlight was off, which of course is exactly the case. The fact that the sainted (at least by the media) Rooneys are involved makes it even more suspect, if he reduces it.

While I don't usually agree with sentiments from former players like TB because they seem jaded by a lot of factors, including the outrageous salaries these players get, I think he is right on with all of his statements here. The big Ben thing is just rediculous, and to me, a 6 game suspension seems light. I mean, they did just suspend Johnny Jolly for an entire year for violating the substance abuse policy, and he was found innocent in his trial. Granted, there must be more to the story than that, and there are other examples of unfairness in some of the punishments. Dante Stallworth for example, that guy should NEVER be allowed on a NFL football team ever again after what he did, but he's back.
The earring thing is just stupid, and that guy deserves to not have his stupid diamond earring just for paying 50 grand for it in the first place.
As far as Ryan and jets are concerned. Part of the problem is the microscope of New York Media, and them building hype where it is not warrented, the other part is the "Hard Knocks" series on HBO putting them in a spotlight. I don't think they do much this year at all, I was never impressed by Sanchez, and I think this year will prove he was/is a product of the USC hype machine, just because he was a USC qb for a whole 13 games or whatever.

Terry can't spelll C-A-T but he's got it right on Ratsberger.

Is there any evidence he's changed? Cutting his suspension would be the quicked way to a relapse I can think of. Make him feel the pain and his teammates wrath. That should do it.

"He doesn't play; easy for him to shoot his mouth," Bradshaw said

Maybe so, guys love playing for Ryan - period - so whatever Bradshaw says is irrelevant to the Jets locker room, you can believe that - and ironically the man that Bradshaw played for was not really known as a "player coach" - wondering if maybe their's some "coach envy" going on there - hhmmm...results with Knoll were obviously Super Bowl wins, so not taking anything away from him there; however, what's Bradshaw talking about, really...

While I agree that Big Ben should have faced some kind of suspension over the UNPROVEN ALLEGATIONS, I do think that with being put in those situations that he not only hurt the image of the NFL and the Steelers, I still have a tough time choking down suspensions for things that are never proven.
I am a life long die hard Steeler fan, but I am a football fan first and foremost. I am a bit Leary of the Commish handing out heavy handed penalties for unsubstantiated claims. Big Ben was not convicted of anything, nor he was charged with a crime.Do I think he did some pretty crappy things, yup. do I think he should be suspended four games, no. Two or three, I would definitely agree with. But for him to be the first NFL player suspended over accusations, is a bad precedent to being set. Innocent til proven guilty, does not apply to the NFL, I assume.

Packfanforlife- Jolly took a plea deal, aka-plead guilty to lesser charges.
Stallworth-This part so ticks me off with people who either are too lazy to read the facts or too ignorant to care. Should Stallworth been driving? Nope. Should the guy been running through 6 lanes of traffic when its still dark out? Nope.

Huge difference between being a football fan and knowing about football.
