Defensive coordinator doesn't want to distract from Houston playoff run. Terry McCormick
Wade Phillips has pulled his name from consideration to be head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, because he didn't want to be a distraction, according to the Houston Chronicle.
“I didn’t want to be a distraction, or a perceived distraction,” Phillips said. “Even though I would have been doing it (interview) on Friday night on my own time, I know some would have blamed me if we didn’t do well and I had interviewed for the job. At some point, you have to decide what you want to do, and I just decided that it’s important for me to be here right now.”
Phillips said he is happy as defensive coordinator for the Texans and his help in turning around the defense has been a big part of why the franchise is enjoying its first playoff berth in its 10-year history.

If Wade wants a head coaching job, the Texans should just give him Kubiak's job. Kubiak had the most tenuous of grasps on his job after last season, not to mention the fact that he was the longest tenured head coach with the worst record. Unfortunately, now they will probably sign him to a 30 year deal after this season.
He should just schedule the meeting for Monday. He'll have all the time in the world then.
I love to see this. Nice. The grass isn't always greener on the other side
Phillips has already failed twice (or has it been three times) now as a HC. Why would anyone think one more time would be more successful? He's a great DC, but has no where near the player control or discipline to be a HC.

Probably a wise choice. I don't know that Wade to T.B. was a good fit anyway.
