Houston Texans rookie sixth-round wide receiver and return specialist Trindon Holliday is out for the entire season due to a torn thumb ligament that will require surgery.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak told reporters today that the former LSU standout will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair the damage.
The 5-foot-5, 168-pound speedster dropped a punt while playing with a cast on his hand. That miscue led to a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints
On Monday, the Texans signed rookie wide receiver Derrick Townsel to audition for a return role. Townsel was recently cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Holliday was signed to a four-year deal with a maximum value of $2.731 million that includes a $96,600 signing bonus this summer.
Holliday was the first rookie draft pick to sign off on a contract.
The 5-foot-5, 160-pounder won the NCAA 100-meter championship last year.
He ran back two punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns at LSU.
