Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak has been fired today, owner Bob McNair announced during a press conference.
"This has been a very disappointing year," McNair said. "We started with such high hopes. To have this string of losses is unacceptable."
The coaching search process has already begun and defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has been named the interim head coach.
"Some of people we'll visit with are in coaching situations now, so this will be held on a confidential basis," McNair said. "One of advantages of taking action now is we can start process to find new head coach. The process is underway."
The Texans have lost 11 consecutive games during a dreadful season after entering this year regarded as a potential Super Bowl representative for the AFC.
Kubiak has coached the Texans for the past eight years.
"We've got to turn this around,"McNair said. "We want a winning culture. Our goal is to win the last three games. We're going to do everything to win.
