The Houston Texans have cut veteran cornerback Fred Bennett, a former fourth-round draft pick.
Bennett is a 6-foot-1, 194-pound defensive back who has started 17 career games, registering 123 tackles, five interceptions, 23 pass deflections and four forced fumbles.
He intercepted three passes as a rookie, but had fallen behind the other cornerbacks on the Texans' depth chart.
"We wanted to give Fred a chance to find another job, so we made the move today," coach Gary Kubiak said. "There's no doubt in my mind and no doubt in Fred's mind that he can play in this league.
"We're playing a lot of young guys at that position. Sherrick McManis has made a lot of progress. Fred's always handled the situation with class. He's been up and down. We wish him the best."
The Texans also cut defensive end Pannel Egboh and wide receiver London Crawford.
