The Houston Texans waived quarterback John Beck on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The Texans needed to add depth at safety, and re-signed Troy Nolan to the 53-man roster. Quintin Demps will miss some time after suffering a broken forearm, but the team opted not to place him on injured reserve.
The release of Beck leaves the 4-0 Texans with two quarterbacks - starter Matt Schaub and second-year pro T.J. Yates, who finished up last year as the starter when both Schaub and former Texan Matt Leinart suffered season-ending injuries.
