Texans hold out hope for Reed to play in opener

The Houston Texans are still holding out some hope that free agent pickup Ed Reed might be available for the season opener Sept. 9 against the San Diego Chargers.

“The surgeon will take a last look at him. … That’s going to be the last step, then he’ll be back for good and he’ll start working toward hopefully getting back on the field,” Kubiak said Thursday via the Houston Chronicle.

Reed, who joined the Texans after a standout career with the Baltimore Ravens, has yet to leave the physically unable to perform list following hip surgery.
