The Houston Texans addressed their backfield depth by signing running back Derrick Ward to a one-year contract, according to NFL.com.

Ward was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this week.

Signed to a four-year, $17 million contract last year after excelling with the New York Giants, Ward wasn't productive in Tampa Bay. H e rushed for only 409 yards and one touchdown last season.

Per the Houston Chronicle, the Texans also spoke with free agent Justin Fargas.

The Texans needed help at running back with rookie Ben Tate out for the season.
