The NFL opened in, ahem, less than stunning fashion this past weekend. Hopefully tonight will be better. Here's a look back, with a few music picks to help you power through the rest of the day.

“I’m Looking Through You” by The Beatles. There’s no more terrifying realization than watching a Texans game and coming to terms with the fact Matt Schaub is your fantasy QB. He is awful now, he was awful at UVA, he will be awful in the future. What I don’t understand is why nobody has ever commented on his windup. Byron Leftwich was run out of Jacksonville for throwing like a shot putter, but it’s year three of the Matt Schaub era in Houston and nobody is the least bit curious as to why he throws like that?

APEli was a victim of a bad non-call.

“Little Star (Live)” by Jesse Malin. I’m not even a Packers fan, but Jay Cutler’s four-INT game Sunday was delightful. He’s just the kind of guy you don’t feel bad seeing fail. My favorite part was that giant hickey on his neck, like he was 16. Just delightful.

“AAA” by Granpaboy. I don’t think I’ve seen a worse call this decade than the Al Harris pass interference call in the Bears-Packers game. There is justice in the world that he was able to pick off Cutler to seal the game. Second worst crew of the day had to be in the Redskins-Giants game, missing a clear facemask by Andre Carter that led to an Eli Manning fumble and not stepping in to blow dead a clear non-fumble from Chris Cooley. Nobody looked ready for the season to start yesterday.

“It’s a Bad World” by Teenage Fanclub. Owning Chris Johnson in fantasy football has turned me into a Little League mother. Every time he gets tackled I begin to shriek. With this in mind, take it from me, Bo Scaife is right: The Steelers were going low on the Titans all night Thursday.

“Las Vegas Blush” by Ford & Fitzroy. The Stokley touchdown got all the play, but on behalf of gamblers nationwide, the two most heart-stopping moments Sunday afternoon were the pointless touchdowns at the end of the Ravens and Redskins games. Willis McGahee runs for a touchdown to put the Ravens up 14, and Chris Cooley catches a touchdown to put the Redskins down six. The line, by the way: Ravens (-13) and Redskins (+6½). Good grief.

“Soldier Boy” by Mason Jennings. Yesterday I saw Danny Ware and Brian Urlacher dislocate their wrists. Why is this a season-ending injury? I get that it is, and it must hurt like the dickens, as it were, by why does a broken hand keep you out for six weeks but a dislocated wrist lands you on IR? Any doctors out there?

“Connection” by The Rolling Stones. Sunday was an important day for the elderly stumbling around comically, with Favre, Warner and the guy from the Keystone commercial who got hit in the head turning in sub-standard performances. It was nice, however, to see Mike Wallace make that big catch in overtime to wrap up a win for the Steelers. Good for him.

“Yea Yeah” by Matt and Kim. This song features a lot of screaming and loud noises. In other words, it will be perfect for the Raiders game tonight.

Not quite a doctor (fourth year MD student)...basic summary...typically, fractures are impact injuries that just need the bone to heal (which takes 4-8 wks depending)...as long as you can mobilize and protect the bone (i.e. casting) you're fine. Wrist dislocations typically carry with them a lot of soft tissue damage, as well as tendong/ligament/nerve complications. They often need surgery to fix and take time to heal (i.e. healing of ligaments and tendons is slow)...also, there is a much more significant risk of serious re-injury and even worse injury (including possible nerve damage) if not treated properly. With a broken bone, you can always re-fracture the bone, but no big deal.

My fantasy team tied its initial game, on the strength of a Sebastian Janikowski solo tackle.

5. JacciTucci 0-0-1 .500 108.62 T-1
Well at least I have a .500 record after week one?
Yahoo did not score Vilma's stat line coreectly, he is credited with twelve points, he had six solo tackles and assist, we score two for tackles and one for an assist. Please join the cause in having yahoo address the inequity in its stat line for Vilma's FF point total. He should have thirteen points on the stat line total.
