The safety position that had been a major question mark for the Tennessee Titans going into the off-season now appears to be solidified.

Earlier on Monday, the Titans placed the franchise tag on free safety Michael Griffin. Now, TitanInsider is reporting that Tennessee is "close" to reaching an agreement to retain strong safety Jordan Babineaux.

Babineaux, a free agent pickup from Seattle shortly after the lockout, cannot re-sign officially until free agency begins March 13 because of rules of the collective bargaining agreement regarding him signing a veteran minimum deal last year.

However, a deal can be verbally reached before that time, and it looks as if the two sides are closing in on such an agreement.
