Titans cut Chris Simms, Myron Rolle to reach 53

Chris Simms was beaten out by rookie Rusty Smith as the Tennessee Titans third quarterback as the team got down to 53 players.

Plus, Rhodes scholar Myron Rolle was released.

And linebacker David Thornton was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and linebacer Gerald McGrath was added to the reserve/suspended list for the first four games of the season.

The Titans also cut the following players: DE Eric Bakhtiari, DE Raheem Brock, FB Jed Collins, WR Dominique Edison, RB Samkon Gado, DE Chris Harrington, CB Tye Hill, DT David Howard, G Nick Howell, DT Joe Joseph, C Kevin Matthews, T Nevin McCaskill, RB Alvin Pearman, TE Steven Pfahler, TE Sean Ryan, T Michael Toudouze, LB Patrick Trahan and WR Paul Williams.

Undrafted rookie LeGarrette Blount made the team.

Matthews is the son of former Titans Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews.
