The Tennessee Titans aren't expected to pick up the option for quarterback Jake Locker, according to the Tennessean.

Drafted eighth overall in 2011, Locker is heading into the last year of his rookie deal.

Barring a breakthrough season, Locker is not expected to be signed to a contract extension.

Plus, Locker is coming off foot surgery.

“Surgery went really well,” Locker told the Tennessean. “Foot feels awesome and rehab is up and rolling. Doctors were happy with how things looked so (I’m) just continuing to follow that trend.”

The Titans could draft a quarterback as a potential future replacement for Locker.

Among the best quarterbacks: Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Derek Carr.

The Titans hold the 11th overall pick of the first round.

“He knows what’s at stake, he’s got to perform,” Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt said during the NFL league meetings. “One thing I like about him is I’ve seen improvement in his play over the last few years. He hasn’t played enough, that’s the hard thing. You’d like to have a little bit more to evaluate.

"One of the things that I think is important when you’re evaluating is, where was he three years ago and where was he this past season? And his play has improved.”
