The Tennessee Titans are regarded as unlikely to use the franchise tag this year, according to the Tennessean.

Using the tag on Pro Bowl cornerback Alterraun Verner would require a commitment of $11.2 million.

Strong safety Bernard Pollard is unlikely to be tagged, either. It would cost over $8 million to tag him.

The Titans would ideally retain both players, but it cuold be too expensive to do so.

Verner is expected to be paid highly if he hits free agency.
