Tennessee Titans star running back Chris Johnson's tenure with the AFC South franchise is expected to end as soon as Friday.
Johnson was set to meet with Titans general manager Ruston Webster on Thursday night, according to the Tennessean.
Johnson is expected to take a physical prior to being released.
Johnson is due an $8 million base salary.
The Titans are expected to cut him as he comes off knee surgery in January.
Efforts to trade him have been unsuccessful.
The Titans signed Johnson to a four-year, $53.5 million contract in 2011.
However, he hasn't had the same type of success since signing the deal.
Johnson has rushed for 7,965 yards and 50 touchdowns since being drafted by the Titans in the first round in 2008 out of East Carolina.
The New York Jets have been rumored as a potential landing spot for Johnson.
