There had been plenty of speculation that the Tennessee Titans might part ways with running back Chris Johnson and safety Michael Griffin by the end of the business day today.
Johnson's contract has a $9 million guaranteed base salary that will kick in today, and Griffin has a $3.5 million base salary guarantee that will take effect also.
Coach Mike Munchak put to rest any thought that the Titans would release either player by not paying the guaranteed base salary by today's deadline.
We’re gonna honor both contracts,” Munchak said on Thursday.
Both contracts, especially Johnson’s, had been talked about in media speculation for weeks and months regarding what the Titans would do. But Munchak said it was never an issue inside Baptist Sports Park.
“We talked about salary cap issues and where the money was going and all those things, but there was never the talk that we weren’t going to honor it or that we were going to cut CJ.”
